Anish Kapoor at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park

We are very excited about heading down to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park tomorrow to check out "Flashback" by British artist, Anish Kapoor. This exhibition runs from 16th June - 4th November 2012.

Kapoor has achieved international acclaim for his sensual and beguiling sculptures created using pigment, stone, stainless steel and wax, and his work is represented in major exhibitions, collections and public spaces across the globe.

We'll be sure to let you know what we think when we get back tomorrow night and will hopefully have a few photographs of our own to show you too.

Recycled Toy Dog

Check this out for a novel way to use all those discarded or broken toys that today's kids get through!. Created by British artist, Robert Bradford.

"I stared into my kids' toy boxes and they made a great combination of colors, shapes and textures. It gave me the idea to turn them into new 'beings'," says the artist

Baby Blue Snail

Check out this freaky little creation! Originally spotted for sale on Etsy this is what the artist had to say about Blue Willow the Sleepy Snail...

"Blue willow is made from a giant snail shell, old porcelain doll head, clay and raccoon penis bones for antennas. She has turquoise blue flocking for body. She is approximately 7 inches long, 7.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches deep. She is an original, one-of-a-kind sculpture."

Meet Cecil! Lighting by Alex Féthière

 Photographs (c) Alex Fethiere

We fell in love with Cecil whilst checking out the work of lighting, jewellery & sculpture designer, Alex Féthière.

We'd like our very own Cecil light for our CO9Cloud studio, so thought you all may like him too!

Alex makes all his products, which range from some really unique and gorgeous bracelets to a wine rack the size of a wardrobe and named 'Nasa', from industrial metals. The colour on his bracelets and belt buckles are unique to each individual piece as it’s not paint, it’s a pigmented porous layer of crystallized oxides. We learnt from Alex's blog that this is the greenest, most low-impact way to colour metal.

To check out more of Alex's wonderful and original pieces find his site HERE

He also has a brilliantly written blog, a really good read, which you can find here... ART OF OLIVE GREEN

Pharmakinetic by Ross Bleckner for Steuben

(c) Steuben

Designed by Ross Bleckner, Pharmakinetic is a limited edition of only 10 signed works, plus two artist proofs.

Spotted whilst browsing the wonderful world of Steuben and with a price tag of $38,000, it is definitely in our "If money were no object" category, but we at CO9Cloud love that this piece, in Steuben's own word's, "was inspired by the three-dimensional properties of glass and its ability to warp and mutate light and how that process resembles the mind-altering effects that pharmacological substances have on the body".

Leaf Series by Christopher Georgesco

We love these modern contemporary sculptures by Christopher Georgesco.

Created between 2002 and 2009, the "Leaf Series" is Georgesco's most colourful series, though we think his "Prismatic Centrifuges" are worth a look too (see below)!

Christopher Georgesco was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and gained fame in Venice, California in 1968 when his first solo show was deemed an overnight success by William Wilson, critic for the Los Angeles Times.

Now in his 60's, his recent work "Rectangular Revisions" in Stainless Steel has just exhibited at the Michael H.Lord Gallery in Palm Springs. http://www.michaelhlordgallery.com/

Please take the time to have a look through Georgesco's new work and archives on his site here  http://www.georgescoart.com

Henry Moore Exhibition, Leeds Art Gallery

So good to see the sun shining today, really feels like Spring! One of our girls from CO9 Cloud has just spent a leisurely lunch break wandering round the new Henry Moore exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery. It was great to see so many people out and about enjoying the local legend’s work. In particular, CO9 Cloud were happy to see a group of primary school children sitting quietly, engrossed in their sketches of Moore’s paintings and sculptures, some of whose attempts were really quite good!

We really recommend checking out this exhibition, which runs until 12 June 2011. The gallery is free to all and run lunchtime tours as an introduction to the new Henry Moore exhibition, see their website for details http://www.leeds.gov.uk/artgallery/

We think this is definitely worth the train fare up from London, across from Manchester or even down from Edinburgh for a great day out. If you are planning a visit to Leeds be sure to check out the blogs of CultureVulture and LeedsGrub which include the insider's guide to all the great things to do in Leeds, as well as where to eat, sleep and party! Mandy Long - Ceramic and Glass Sculptures

We spotted these ceramic sculptures by Mandy Long sometime ago in the window of Castle Galleries, a great little gallery right in the centre of Leeds. The piece that caught our attention was called ‘inspiration’ and intrigued us enough to make us want to find out more.

Mandy’s work is gutsy and strong (works include a focus on footballers, rugby players and more recently dancers) without being over-bearing and we think they capture the human form in all its glory superbly - an incredible accomplishment considering Mandy didn’t turn her hand to her true passion of sculpture until she moved to Leeds in 2000 and enrolled in a 3-Dimensional Design course at Harrogate College. To see more of Mandy’s work, please visit her website here http://www.mandylong.com/
